Life after Covid-19 and ECQ

How long has it been?

March 14, 2020 the beginning of all uncertainties. Everything came to a halt! An invisible enemy has gotten into the country and no one knew what to do. The easiest course of action and following WHO guidelines is to put NCR in lockdown! No one leaves the house except the frontliners!

The weeks that followed were not easy. In fact, it was difficult for everyone especially seeing the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 grow exponentially high by the hour. News of deaths of doctors and nurses all over the world didn’t help. It added to the brewing anxiety and fear. NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO BEAT THIS VIRUS!

Doctors worked tirelessly in trying to save Covid-19 patients everyday. All healthcare professionals risked their own lives to save others. Essential workers sacrificed a lot to get to their workplace so they can provide the services people need – groceries, medicines, food, etc. Healthcare workers walked kilometers upon kilometers just to get to the hospital as all modes of transportation were suspended. Frontliners get harassed and discriminated by some mindless people for fear of getting the virus; forgetting about the great sacrifices they made in order to care for the Covid-19 patients in the hospital.

The supposedly one-month quarantine period was extended for another 30 days as more cases and deaths were recorded in the entire country. People stayed at home as much as they could, only going out to buy their essentials.

No work. No pay. No food. All these made people restless and scared. When will this end?

It’s barely a week before the end of Enhanced Community Quarantine. Many are excited to go back to work, if there is still work to return to. A lot more are at a loss on how “work” will look like with social distancing as the “new normal”.

How do we get to work? How do we “work”? What will the new work environment be like? One meter apart? Everyone wearing face mask?

More questions. One thing is for sure. No one knows what life is after ECQ.

In all of these, we thank all the frontliners and essential workers who didn’t mind risking their own lives just so they can make our lives a little easier. You are the heroes of 2020!
